Displaced - Fertile Ground 2016
SubRosa Dance Collective’s fourth Fertile Ground Festival appearance, Displaced, is an immersive dance performance that examines the physical consequences and emotional residue caused by displacement. With rising rents, no cause evictions, and an increasing lack of creative spaces, the results of being displaced has become a widespread conversation topic. Using non-traditional staging and a live sound score, SubRosa Dance Collective addresses the emotional fallout of displacement captured within a variety of contexts. The audience will bear witness to the emotions of being uprooted from their home, relationship, career, city, or country in this pop-up performance. Choreographers Carlyn Hudson, Lena Traenkenschuh, Cerrin Lathrop, Kailee McMurran, Tia Palomino, and Matthew Cichon share their personal displacement experiences with potent movement and tender emotions bound together with intimately engaged music and sound provided by Valerie Perczek. Run time is 40 minutes.

2015 PAST SHOWS
What is the Vespertine Ball? It is a white winter formal/costume ball, that is elegant, sophisticated, and intimate, while also fostering individual creativity for those that wish to be in costume. Featuring, Gothic/Industrial music, professionally catered food, photography and a grand live performance honoring the turn of the seasons and the Solstice.
December 19th @ 6pm
Melody Ballroom 615 SE Alder St
SubRosa performed a multimedia, site-specific piece, The Process, in the Ovation Room, a small glass room in Portland’s Armory. Choreography by Cerrin Lathrop, The Process gives the audience a glimpse into the rehearsal process and what the repetition, the exploration and the choreographer’s requests demand of dancers. From outside the glass room, observe the stress and joy of the choreographic process. Performed by Jess Evans, Lena Traenkenschuh, & Kailee McMurran.
July 25th @ 3pm & 3:30pm

SubRosa @ Headwaters
SubRosa Dance Collective invites you to witness an intimate sharing of dance at the charming Headwaters Theater. For this show The Collective, with guest artist Kate Rafter of Automal, has engaged in the processes of leaning in wide-eyed to peer at our shortcomings, our perceived gritty-bits of self that often lay like dim pools, untouched, mirroring a rendering of ourselves that is often fearsome and cold. These places come rippling forth, given a voice in movement that is honest, humorous, complex in implication and choreography, and performed with presence and ferocity. Choreographed and performed by Kailee McMurran, Jess Evans, Tia Palomino, Carlyn Hudson, Cerrin Lathrop, & Lena Traenkenshuh. Guest Choreography by Kate Rafter.
June 19-21 & 26-28 @ 7:30PM

Living the Room was SubRosa’s second feature length show. Performed at the Bamboo Grove a nontraditional dance venue. Living the Room was directly caused by SubRosa’s lack of rehearsal space. Instead each piece was created within the choreographers living rooms, using their surrounding furniture.
